STWM… ‘Reid Coolsaet’ ‘Eric Gillis’ qualified for ‘London Olympics’ 2012…

An amazing event transpired at the 2011 Toronto Waterfront Marathon… Two Canadians qualified to represent Canada in the marathon at the 2012 London Olympics…

It is the first time since 2000, at the Sydney Olympics, Canada has been represented in the marathon.  Bruce Deacon placed 44th…

Reid Coolsaet, 32, ran a 2:10:55 on the blustery autumn day meeting the Canadian Olympic Standard for the marathon of 2:11:29…

Kenneth Mungara of Kenya won his fourth straigh title winning the race in 2:09:51 followed by Ethiopia’s Shami Abdulahi…

Reid was close, but just off the mark, of also beating Canada’s 36-year-old Marathon record held by Jerome Drayton with a 2:10:09…

His training partner, from the Speed River Track Club located in Guelph Ontario, Eric Gillis, 31, also met the Canadian Olympic Marathon Standard by the narrowest of margins, one second, running a 2:11:28…

Dylan Wykes finished 6th running a 2:12:57 just outside the Canadian Standard…

Congratulations to these boys… Canada is going to be well represented at the Olympics and other marathons … These two are truly World Class athletes!
