I never realized how important a wetsuit is to a triathlete until I jumped into the lake last night for an OWS.. With 18 degree air temperature and 21 degree water, it was a  little nippy getting in, but once dunked, I didn’t want to get out!

Have to start looking for a wetsuit! Such an expensive little habit…

Yes, wetsuits are pretty pricey. As long as you plan on doing some more triathlons or swimming out there, then it’s a good investment.

And as others might have already pointed out, you get added buoyancy. Even down here in the South, most triathletes wear them. A bunch of people here rent them… just a thought.

Yes, it can be an expensive habit! Key to buying a wetsuit is to start shopping early, well before a race–you can find some decent deals if there’s no immediate need.

You are nuts, you are going to give yourself hypothermia…here is a site I use for a bunch of different gear but I know they had suits on the other day and right now they have a bunch of different triathlon gear.

I wear my wetsuit even now when Lake Michigan is 76 or 77 degrees (around 24.5 C). The buoyancy makes the swim easier. And in the event you do have a problem or a panic attack, easy to roll on your back and just float in the wetsuit (hasn’t happened to me, but I know people that have had to do that).
