Injuries and set backs…

This week I have run 2 miles… I am currently on a running hiatus due to a very painful groin and quad area. I have run through the pain over the last couple weeks, including 14 miles on Sunday, but decided if I don’t back off, I will end up on a permanent disabled list.

Much like where I am now…

This is pay back following years of bragging and gloating about never experiencing a running related injury throughout my entire running career.

I don’t think it is very serious; I did what most do when they get injured, I turned to the internet. According to Runner’s World forums what I am experiencing (as I have the same symptoms as those on the forum) is a quadriceps muscle strain… Remedy; Massage!

A fact about me; I don’t and never have stretched! With the strain of adding 2 additional sports to my regular training repertoire, my muscles have become tired and tight and I believe this has caused my current set back. Straight from Dr. John M.D.

But I have continued to swim and cycle; racking up 3 hours on the bike and 5200 meters of swimming so far this week.

It can’t hurt, they are low/ no impact sports…

I found a frozen water bottle in my freezer at work immediately grabbing it for use as a medical apparatus rolling it hard into my quad. It feels like it is working!

Here is hoping it resolves itself!

 Cheers

Week 8, Florida bound!

That concludes week 8 and unfortunately, I don’t have my stats handy… I tend to calculate and keep track of them as part of work related activities…

As a matter of fact, I DO!

I swam 5500 meters

ran 42 miles

Cycled for 8 hours again this week…

A tiring week, required a couple swim, bike, run days to fulfil all activities. After 4 hours on the bike and a 6 mile run this morning, I have been experiencing slight groin discomfort. I don’t say pain or injury because I have yet to be on a disabled list due to injury… Knock on wood…

Tomorrow I leave on a jet plane for Florida…

Taking at least 2 possibly 3 days off this week…

Going to follow strict carb rules and drink lots of beer and eat lots of junk… I will be a machine next week haha

Cheers

Champix.. 10 months

I stole this photo from google, along with the one below…

The previous one liner wasn’t suppose to post.

This drug was instrumental in assisting me to kicking my smoking habit. November/ December marks 10 months that I have been off the weed and I have no interest in ever starting again. I will wait to jump up and down, dance and sing like in the commercials till I reach my one year anniversary.

I have experienced no side effects and it worked magically in removing all  desire to smoke.

It is nice not to be ingesting all those harmful chemicals.

My confession is… I was a heavy smoker, 1 pack (or more) a day,  yet I have always been a runner, even while smoking. I have run since I was 12 and started smoking when I was 21.  I ran and trained for two marathons as a smoker (not at the same time) and personally, I have not noticed a difference in my running since I have become a non-smoker. I had become a talented smoking runner (I am joking)

This year has been a horrible running year. I have failed to reach a PB in any race I have entered…

I trained like crazy for a half marathon in October… I executed the race horribly and failed miserably. My own doing…

I have ended many fall runs with my arms flailing in the air yelling to any interested chipmunk in the woods as to why I can’t pace myself properly to successfully complete an 8 mile run. We the amateur, weekend warrior runners are our own worse enemies.

I know that I  am addicted to running and couldn’t picture myself as a non-runner. Without failure, you wouldn’t know success, as with all things in life…

Cheers
